UK based stage hire company Outdoor Stages has enjoyed a bumper year driven by a resurgent events industry and is looking to reinvest its increased profits into further expansion.
With dozens of Platinum Jubilee celebrations, a return to festival bookings, and a surge in smaller, family-friendly live music festivals across the UK, the company saw increased rentals across the board in 2022 working new festival promoters & event spaces across London, Surrey & Hampshire.
Against a backdrop of a few years marred by the pandemic, the industry is finding its feet again, and Outdoor Stages are enjoying the fruits of their labours.
Outdoor Stages Enjoy Fruitful Summer of Celebration After COVID-19 Hiatus
There’s no doubt that the pandemic had a significant impact on the UK’s event calendar, but the event industry is now experiencing a gradual recovery. Festivals are re-emerging at an ever-increasing rate, with several new festivals taking place for the first time in 2022 with more planned for 2023.
Outdoor Stages has capitalised on this resurgence by investing in new stages, lighting equipment, staff training, and upgrading their warehouse facilities to allow them to build & test each stage in their warehouse allowing for LOLER testing on site ensuring they stay fully compliant.
The result has been an increased ability to supply and build stages to more clients than ever simultaneously. This was a critical factor in their success last year, with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations taking place across the same weekend back in June where the company had a number of 6m X 4m, 7m X 5m, 8m X 6m & their larger 10m X 8m stages on rental across the UK.
The company supplied no less than four Jubilee events concurrently, namely the Weybridge Jubilee Fair & Arts Festival, Ascot’s Platinum Party in the Park, Andover’s Platinum Jubilee Street Festival, and Fleet Town Council’s Jubilee Event.
To supply fully a covered outdoor stage with sound & lighting equipment and overseeing the whole event production to seven different locations is a testament to the team at Outdoor Stages & all the stage crew involved.
Of course, the Platinum Jubilee only represented one extended weekend of events for the team.
The rest of the summer season was littered with music festivals of all genres taking place across the country. From the Astonbury Music Festival in Oxfordshire to Ridegefest, an event taking place on the prestigious Ridgeview Wine Estate in Sussex.
Other family-oriented event highlights included the 10th Annual Staines-upon-Thames Day, Hale Carnival, and a celebration marking 50 years of Trellic Tower in London where Outdoor Stages supplied a small 6 meter wide X 4 meter deep arc roof stage with a d&b audiotechnik Q1 PA system & SGM lighting fixtures controlled via a Midas M32 for the sound & a ChamSys MQ60 for the lighting.
Lastly, the company helped deliver numerous religious and cultural celebrations, including the ever-popular Nepali Mela (a festival celebrating Nepalese culture), Carnaval Del Pueblo (a celebration of Latin American culture), and several Eid celebrations across the UK.
Outdoor Stages Continues to Build Momentum After Tough Couple of Years for Events Industry
The pandemic destroyed almost all of the 2020 outdoor events season (many event organisers had to cancel their scheduled dates) and significantly impacted the 2021 schedule (several events couldn’t secure adequate insurance coverage).
However, the business’ positive outlook was a testament to the strength of character the team have at Outdoor Stages. Despite the recent challenges, the company continues to go from strength to strength with a whole host of new contracts signed this year and a robust pipeline of events in the calendar for the next couple of years.
Managing Director, commented, “What made us different from many other stage hire companies trying to navigate the crisis is that we continued to invest heavily in new equipment, stages and personnel. We even expanded our production services such as power generation and power distribution services at a time when others were laying off staff”
The gamble certainly seems to have paid off, with turnover increasing by more than 20% year-on-year and the company planning to recruit more staff and invest in additional outdoor LED screens to meet the ever-increasing demand for larger stages & larger productions which is a new 3.9mm outdoor G2 LED screen from Highlite UK.
Event organisers will gain the ability to choose from a range of impressive stock fixtures, including video walls, moving head lights, and other next-generation LED lighting solutions from manufacturers such as CHAUVET Professional & SGM lighting. They will also be able to choose specific outdoor stage dimensions and height configurations to match their event needs with the new layher deck system in place.
