Hong Kong — Prostatic Urethral Lift enables older males to enhance their quality of life and sexual function and increases urination speed.
The research was conducted to encourage healthy aging and the association between psychological issues in older male persons and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Patients may experience tension and worry due to Lower Urine Tract Symptoms (LUTS) and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), particularly incontinence and urinary urgency. Urinary problems like frequency, urgency, and incontinence may be linked to psychiatric stress, and there may be a reciprocal relationship.
Additionally, it has been noted that members of Chinese society regard their traditions, cultures, and religion far too highly to be open to change and are mostly cut off from the contemporary world. Many older men avoid professionals and rely on inefficient techniques to safeguard the sexual and cultural ideals that their elders have entrusted to them. As risk variables for depressive symptoms and LUTS/BPH, multimorbidity, dwelling area, yearly household consumption, and living region have all been identified.
Education, sleep quality, and multimorbidity were all substantially and independently connected with depression in LUTS/BPH patients in the Chinese culture society, according to the findings of logistic models. The result is that depressive symptoms were more common in LUTS/BPH people than in non-LUTS/BPH populations. On the other hand, numerous private hospitals in Hong Kong have also begun using a novel minimally invasive procedure called a prostatic urethral lift, which involves inserting 4 to 5 implants into the prostate.
The surgery aims to expand the urethra and make it smooth again. The procedure involves monitored anesthesia, which can lower the older patient’s risk of experiencing general or partial anesthesia. According to Dr. Steve Chan, a leading urologist in Hong Kong, the procedure only requires a minor incision and takes around 20 minutes to complete. Following the procedure, the quality of life and sexual function both improved, along with a 75.6% improvement in urine speed.
