XL Ministries Announces 2023 North Texas Training Conference for Church Elders

XL Ministries and Countryside Bible Church announced that registrations for the ‘Excellence In Leadership’ conference are now open, welcoming pastors, elders, and church leaders to the main event on the 17th of February, 2023, with pre-conference events on the 15th and 16th.

Through this conference, XL Ministries seeks to exhort and guide church leaders to identify and equip the next generation of elders and leaders.

Stating the biblical pattern based on the apostle Paul’s instructions to Titus and Timothy, XL Ministries believes churches need to invest in training young leaders to shoulder the responsibility of being church elders.

According to a spokesperson for XL Ministries, “This conference focuses on critical aspects to help guide current church leaders as they seek to fulfill their biblical mandate to train up future church leaders.”

The 2023 Excellence In Leadership conference will feature sessions by Tom Pennington, Pastor-Teacher at Countryside Bible Church in Southlake, Texas, and Rocky Wyatt, Executive Director of XL Ministries, and Chris Riser, Pastor at Grace Community Church in Maryville, Tennessee.

Key topics include the evaluation of potential elders in a church, the value of self-examination among elders, and the journey to biblical eldership. The pre-conference events are a dessert social on the 15th, including an introduction to XL Ministries, and a Pastors and Interns Dinner on the 16th. The dinner is for pastors, interns, and their spouses.

Founded in 1992, XL Ministries partners with local churches to create pastoral internship opportunities for young men whom God is leading into ministry. The XL team states that the Bible is clear about the qualifications, responsibilities, and accountability required to be an elder in a local church and emphasizes being careful to heed the Lord’s instructions about developing leaders who can take on this office.

Speaking about the role of the local church in equipping elders, Rocky Wyatt, Executive Director of XL Ministries, says, “Churches can easily fall into the habit of praying that God will raise up elders for the benefit of the church, as though the responsibility falls completely on God. The truth is that it is the church’s responsibility to train godly men to become elders.”
