Frisco Sleep Apnea Appliances for Snoring & Chronic Pain Relief Launched

The newly launched oral appliances are alternative treatments for sleep apnea that do not involve tools like the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. Millennium Smiles explains that their oral mandibular advancement devices are designed for patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

The clinic’s recently launched sleep apnea appliance coincides with an article published by the American Dental Association (ADA) about the role of dentistry in the relief of sleep apnea and chronic pain. According to the report, oral mandibular advancement devices, which dentists fit into a patient’s mouth, prevent the tongue from blocking the throat or advance the lower jaw forward to give airway support as the patient sleeps.

At Millennium Smiles, there are a variety of sleep apnea appliances available, and each style performs a function that is specific to the patient’s needs. All of their appliances are FDA-approved and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) healthy, so patients suffering from chronic jaw pain can wear them, too.

The symptoms of sleep apnea include restless sleep, waking up frequently at night, daytime sleepiness, mood disturbance, and chronic pain. This condition doesn’t just affect adults but children too, and is the leading cause of pseudo-ADHD in children. Millennium Smiles explains that the sooner patients get checked, the sooner they can create a comprehensive treatment plan.

To receive treatment, patients must have a CBCT of the airway to rule out abnormalities in the throat and soft palate that may require surgical intervention. When the patient gets an all-clear, Millennium Smiles will set a Sleep Lab appointment, where the patient will be observed while sleeping.

The clinic encourages patients who suspect that they may have sleep apnea to get it checked as soon as possible because prolonged sleep deprivation can lead to stroke, coronary artery disease, sudden death, type 2 diabetes, GERD, sexual dysfunction (EDS), anxiety, and depression.

“Allowing sleep apnea to continue puts you at risk from serious diseases. We custom-make oral appliances to prevent or ease the symptoms of sleep apnea. The oral appliances help keep your airway open while sleeping, thus ensuring proper breathing,” a company representative said.
