  • Silixa Talks About Benefits of Microseismic Monitoring in Mining Activities

Silixa, a global leader in fibre optic-powered data tools, sheds light on the importance of microseismic monitoring in detecting small seismic events to address the uncertainty of subsurface operations.

Being at the forefront of innovation, the company also offers high-end Distributed Acoustic Sensor (DAS) microseismic monitoring.

“Silixa’s DAS microseismic monitoring provides continuous data, processed to contribute information to aid understanding of the geomechanical response to mining activity and of seismic hazards,” explains a spokesperson from Silixa.

Microseismic monitoring helps gain in-depth insight into the distribution of subsurface stress and deformation according to the space-time evolution of fractures and cracks in the rock mass caused by industrial activities.

Compared with conventional 3D seismic systems that estimate acoustic reflections produced by an energy source, microseismic monitoring technology is a passive seismic technique that uses passive sources instead of artificially induced ones.

An advanced technology for seismic observations over a broad range of frequencies, the microseismic technique can be used in tailings dams monitoring, regional seismicity monitoring, hydraulic fracturing, and induced seismicity monitoring.

Besides addressing the potential geological hazards through assessing seismic risks, microseismic monitoring systems also offer a higher degree of accuracy and reliability when it comes to data interpretation, the company says.

On top of this, by integrating the one-cable DAS measurement data with data captured by class-leading DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensor) and DSS (Distributed Strain Sensor) systems, more detailed information about the microseismicity of a target area can be obtained. The results are many: enhanced site safety, remote and optimised operations with no human involvement, minimum maintenance requirement, and more.

In addition to enabling precise processing sequences for enhanced interpretation of the gathered data, the dense spatial sampling with DAS microseismic monitoring bolsters operational efficiency.

For example, built on its years of sensor expertise, Silixa’s low-maintenance DAS microseismic monitoring provides a dense spatial sampling of the wavefield even in the most extreme environments, says the company.

According to Silixa, by using high-end fibre-optic DAS solutions, operators can get high-quality, accurate data, thus driving cost-efficiency.

For example, comprising a class-leading optoelectronics interrogator and sensing cables equipped with highly engineered Constellation(TM) fibres, Silixa’s Carina Sensing System offers a broadband response with a noise floor similar to geophones. It means that with this high-end sensing system in place, operators can gain a precise recording of small-scale seismic events over a wide spectrum of magnitude. Plus, operators can gain a spatial sampling of <1m with Carena’s long-range fibre-optic sensing element. This results in a large operational area that can be monitored with a single measurement, which leads to cost savings.

Furthermore, by allowing both permanent and temporary deployment of the fiber-optic cables, DAS microseismic monitoring system can offer a higher level of flexibility.

Plus, these cables can remain fully functioning for years while offering two installation options: borehole installation or buried at the surface.

Founded in 2007, Silixa is an award-winning company helping the mining, alternative energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, and earth and environmental sciences industries efficiently address critical measurement challenges.

  • Fission Consulting Answers All IT Carve-Out Questions in New FAQ-style Article

Fission Consulting, the industry-leading IT consultancy company that helps private equity and enterprise-level clients navigate the complexity of an IT carve-out, has shed light on the high-level activities that take place in an IT carve-out with a recent FAQ-style article.

An IT carve-out includes the activities critical to de-integrate the IT assets of the carve-out object from the parent company.

According to Fission, permanently divesting business units is a standard strategy among multi-divisional companies looking to adjust their business portfolios.

Unlike system implementation, in IT carve-out, the NewCo includes no modification and is a near-exact copy of the Parent IT environment unless any new system installation is involved.

With that said, IT carve-out is an intricate transformational project that often poses operational challenges for the involved parties–the current IT infrastructure needs to address NewCo’s business requirements while still being under a division.

Again, as a cross-functional process requiring both entities to work independently, the split-off should happen on an HR, legal, financial, and technical level, followed by building a new IT environment, explains Fission.

According to the company, NewCo has multiple options based on the project when it comes to setting up its IT environment.

To put all systems and applications of the Parent in place for NewCo, the Parent IT environment should be exactly copied. However, in this approach, no Parent data will populate these systems.

The second option is to make a selective copy of the Parent IT environment where only the systems essential to maintain optimal business operation get migrated and installed in the NewCo IT environment.

Again, instead of installing some existing systems from the Parent IT environment, NewCo can deploy completely new ones while making a selective copy. This approach of disregarding Parent systems leads to cost savings and helps efficiently optimize the NewCo applications for scale, adds Fission.

According to Fission Consulting, due to IT carve-out transactions involving a slew of lengthy and complex actions, ensuring an effort in coordination is critical for the effective navigation of the process.

Fission stresses the importance of ensuring hands-on involvement among resources from Parent, NewCo, and involved third parties (if applicable) in driving long-term business value.

According to Fission, the targeted splitting of IT elements of an organization, e.g., data, applications, processes, or infrastructure, can drive measurable returns if carried out by experts.

For example, leveraging its tried-and-tested carve-out methodology, Fission helps streamline highly complex IT carve-out activities to speed up the separation timeline–limiting business disruption and ensuring data accuracy–along the way.

Its end-to-end IT separation process is a six-phase approach that includes kickoff, NewCo IT environment design, infrastructure build, migration execution, cutover, and running the new business.

In the kickoff phase, Fission identifies all project team resources, maintains thorough communication, plans the infrastructure build, and requests documentation for custom data objects, which is essential to develop test scripts.

Even though the Parent and NewCo resources vital to executing a successful carve-out may vary from case to case, typical resource requirements include Project Management Office (PMO), IT business analysts, Functional Testers (NewCo), and technical and infrastructure teams.

Besides thoroughly reviewing the supplied documentation to develop test scripts, the design phase involves devising carve-out rules to pinpoint in-scope data to be migrated to the new IT environment.

Starting in parallel with the design phase, the infrastructure build phase involves developing the project landscape, setting up the NewCo-hosted IT infrastructure, and connecting necessary interfaces to ensure the NewCo can function properly as a standalone system post-separation.

Later comes migrating all NewCo-specific data and applications from Parent’s IT system to NewCo’s IT infrastructure.

Fission says the role of rigorous validation checks is to make sure the NewCo IT environment is free of Parent data.

By executing the developed test scripts and adopting a “test and refine” approach, Fission ensures quick tracking of any functionality issues. The company explains that the result is a fully functioning IT landscape for NewCo upon exiting the transition services agreement (TSA).

The final system cutover plan is executed to enable the acquired company to operate optimally in the standalone IT environment.

Built to support private equity firms as they encounter post-separation challenges, Fission offers prompt on-call support during the initial weeks following cutover, says the company.

Founded in 2017, Fission Consulting is a class-leading IT service and IT consulting company. It provides private equity firms with IT carve-out strategizing and execution services to help minimize project costs, improve project timelines, and remediate common issues.

  • Automation Consultants Now Offers Atlassian Cloud Migration Services

As part of Atlassian’s effort to evolve as a truly cloud-first company, customers are urged to migrate their Jira and Confluence applications to Atlassian’s Cloud.

However, assimilating systems to a cloud environment may seem overwhelming and Automation Consultants, an Atlassian Enterprise Platinum Solution Partner, has affordable cloud migration services to make the process seamless.

According to Automation Consultants, for any business looking to improve the security and reliability of their Atlassian systems, migrating out of the Server and to the Atlassian Cloud is a no-brainer.

On top of this, due to Atlassian declaring the phase out of its mainstream support services for Server by 2024, moving to the Cloud is the most viable option.

As fully managed Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions, Atlassian systems in the cloud environment can scale with the user requirements while accelerating innovation–at a fraction of the cost of Server or on-prem deployment.

Furthermore, by enabling task automation and seamless integration with third-party services, the Atlassian Cloud platform helps enterprises drive business agility and resolve any issue faster.

In addition to built-in security control features like SAML SSO and SCIM user lifecycle management, Atlassian Cloud ensures class-leading protection with audit logs, IP allowlisting, encryption in transit and at rest, and multi-factor authentication.

While it’s easier to comply with even the most stringent data privacy standards with Atlassian Cloud, the use of elastic scale and multi-level redundancy ensures enterprises hardly face downtimes, explains Automation Consultants.

But to ensure effective data and Atlassian system migration while ensuring the user base of an enterprise is fully enabled for the change, companies should leverage a high-end cloud migration service, according to Automation consultants.

For example, leveraging its years of experience in conducting complex Atlassian migrations and mergers, Automation Consultants enables Atlassian customers to transition from self-managed Server platform to the Atlassian Cloud–rapidly and efficiently.

As part of its managed consultancy service, the company has BeeCloud, AC’s optimised framework for a more streamlined Atlassian cloud migration process. Through BeeCloud, the company ensures secure and complete migration of Jira and Confluence to the Cloud, leaving out next to no data, configurations, or add-ons (for instance, marketplace apps), the company claims.

By working as a virtual extension of an IT team of a company, the experts at Automation Consultants ensure the hands-on involvement of all stakeholders in essential decision-making throughout the process–from start to finish. As a result, enterprises can efficiently break through the dreaded data silos and ensure minimal business disruption that leads to measurable (and quick) returns.

“One area AC specialises in is the migration and merging of third-party app data, which often needs custom scripts to ensure it is migrated safely to Cloud from Server. AC has existing solutions to migrate your app data that help you reduce your migration timeline,” explains a spokesperson from Automation Consultants. “As part of AC’s offering, we will also identify any apps that are not available on Cloud and assist in finding an alternative method to mitigate loss in functionality.”

Founded in the early 2000s, Automation Consultants is a world-leading Agile and DevOps consultancy service that helps enterprises drive business value by automating the application life cycle.

  • Align Weight Loss & Body Balancing (Greenville), a Weight Loss Clinic in SC, Offers Body Contouring

Greenville, SC: Align Weight Loss & Body Balancing (Greenville) offers a life-changing weight loss program. Considering everybody is different in hormones and metabolism, the weight loss program is highly personalized. Before curating a customized program, the clinic first finds out the root cause of weight gain and other health problems, as the one-size-fits-all approach may not always deliver results.

Some key components of personalized weight loss programs are curating sustainable routines and switching to whole foods. As multiple research papers show, people must adopt a sustainable routine that merges perfectly with their lives to retain their new weight after losing inches. Besides assisting the client in finding sustainable routines and better diets, the weight loss clinic Greenville SC ensures they are under doctor supervision.

Align Weight Loss & Body Balancing (Greenville) also offers a body contouring service. It is a great alternative to common procedures such as liposuction and CoolSculpting — which are invasive and painful. The non-surgical and pain-free technology is available to persons interested in achieving a slimmer appearance, younger-looking skin, and a body without wrinkles and fine lines.

The body contouring Greenville SC clinic uses 635 nanometer red light, commonly known as low laser therapy, to achieve a slimmer appearance. To lose weight and inches, the wavelength of light penetrates the fat cell wall causing it to open up and fat to liquefy. Besides the client seeing results after the first few visits, the therapy is ideal for targeting harder-to-reach areas.

In addition, body contouring helps increase collagen production, which is directly linked to decreased fine lines, wrinkles, and improved skin elasticity. Unlike taking supplements or making huge changes in diet, the pain-free and non-surgical procedure provides long-term results that are easy to maintain.

While the procedure has many benefits to persons interested in losing weight and skin without fine lines (and wrinkles), the top rated weight loss clinic first evaluates whether they are the ideal candidates. In a scheduled consultation, the medical professional goes through a list of factors before making the big decision. They are also happy to answer all client questions and show them state-of-the-art body contouring machines.

When speaking about the procedure, one client noted: “I live in Greenville and completed their program in June 2022. I’m 71 and wasn’t sure how hard or effective it would be or how long I could maintain my weight loss after the program ended. It’s been six months, and I have not only kept it off, but I also dropped another 5 lbs and maintained that!”

Align Weight Loss & Body Balancing (Greenville) is located at 33 Market Point Dr, Suite 500, Greenville, SC, 29607, US. Clients interested in an instantly slimmer appearance and younger-looking skin (without wrinkles or fine lines) can contact the clinic at (864) 362-8840. Visit the website for more information.

  • Asphalt Paving Company In Calgary Launches Fundraiser For Make-A-Wish Canada

CALGARY, AB: CalAlta Paving Inc., a locally-owned and operated asphalt maintenance company in Calgary, is excited to announce its winter snow removal fundraiser. From December 10th to January 1st, all profits generated from its residential snow removal services will be donated to Make-A-Wish Canada.

Make-A-Wish Canada is a charity that helps children with critical illnesses make their dreams come true. The organization was formed in 1983, and since then, it’s helped grant the wishes of over 36,000 children. The goal of CalAlta’s fundraiser is to raise as much money as possible to help children in need.

All of the snow removal profits CalAlta generates during this fundraiser will be recorded by an external accounting firm. CalAlta will check in regularly with the accounting firm to ensure the net profit is being accurately and consistently reported. At the end of the campaign, the income statement will be sent directly to Make-A-Wish Canada. There will also be a live counter on the website to share net profit numbers during the fundraiser.

This holiday season, people in Calgary can schedule snow removal to clear their driveways and sidewalks. Calgarians can free up more of their time to spend with friends and family while supporting a great cause.

“We are starting a campaign with Make-A-Wish in which 100% of our residential snow removal profits will be donated to them from December 10th to January 1st,” said Brent Schuldhaus, the founder of CalAlta. “With this fundraiser, we hope to make dreams come true for children with terminal illnesses this holiday season.”

The team at CalAlta is incredibly excited about this fundraiser. They originally had the idea for the event in 2021 but knew the company needed more resources to handle the workload it would bring on. To prepare for the workload, they’ll hire more staff as needed throughout the winter season.

During the fundraiser, the team at CalAlta is planning to raise as much awareness as possible. They intend on reaching out to news and media outlets to spread the word, along with actively encouraging people in Calgary to donate to Make-A-Wish.

CalAlta is hopeful that this fundraiser will become an annual event and that the company can form a long-term partnership with Make-A-Wish Canada.
